The Honourable Jim Prentice is the Senior Executive Vice President and Vice Chairman of the CIBC, having joined the Bank in January of 2011. In this role, he is responsible for expanding CIBC's relationships with corporate clients across Canada and internationally. He also provides leadership on strategic initiatives to enhance CIBC's position in the market.

Mr. Prentice was one of the most senior Ministers in the Canadian Government from 2006 to 2010. During that time he chaired the important Operations Committee of Cabinet; served variously as the Minister of Industry, the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development; and sat as a member of the Priorities Committee of Cabinet. He was also the Government of Canada's principal intermediary on matters pertaining to energy, the environment and climate change and was responsible for the Clean Energy Dialogue between the Canadian and US administrations.

Prior to his time in public life, Mr. Prentice practiced law in Calgary, Alberta for over 20 years and also served as the Co-Chair of the Indian Claims Commission of Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta and a law degree from Dalhousie Law School. He was designated a Queen’s Counsel in 1992.

Mr. Prentice is a member of the Board of Directors of Bell Canada (BCE Inc.) and is one of the Canadian members of the Trilateral Commission. He also serves as a Governor and Vice Chair of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and as a Governor of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award - Charter for Business.
