John Boscariol
John W. Boscariol is Partner & Leader of McCarthy Tétrault LLP’s International Trade and Investment Law Group. He specializes in enforcement, disputes and compliance regarding economic sanctions, and other trade and financial controls, as well as anti-corruption rules (including matters arising under the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act), defence goods, services and technology controls, blocking orders (Cuba), government contracts, national security, anti-dumping, countervail, and safeguard proceedings, customs, tariffs and other border measures. His practice also focuses on rights, obligations, and remedies under international trade and investment agreements, including NAFTA, bilateral investment treaties, the WTO agreements (including GATS/TRIPS), and regional FTAs. John represents clients before courts, tribunals and other government regulatory bodies, including the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, the Canada Border Services Agency, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, the Controlled Goods Directorate (PWGSC), the Department of National Defence, the Canadian Transportation Agency, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the Federal Courts, and NAFTA Binational Panels. He is a frequent author and speaker on anti-corruption and other international trade matters. He is the recipient of a 2011 International Law Office/Association of Corporate Counsel Client Choice Award for Trade Law. Martindale-Hubbell rates John as "AV Preeminent", their "highest level of professional excellence" and Chambers Global ranks him in Tier One for WTO/International Trade. He has also been ranked highly in numerous other national and international directories. John is currently Co-Chair of the ABA Export Controls & Economic Sanctions Committee and Co-Chair of the Export Committee of the Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters. He is Immediate Past Chair of the Ontario Bar Association International Law Section. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1995 and awarded an. LLM in 1998.
