Guy Legault
Guy Legault is President and CEO of the Canadian Payments Association (CPA), which operates Canada’s national clearing and settlement systems and facilitates the movement of funds between financial institutions (on average, over 25 million payment transactions totaling over $179 billion each business day). He has 30 years' executive experience, having held positions with organizations in the financial, political, legal, and health sectors. Prior to joining the CPA in 2003, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada for eight years.
Mr. Legault holds a Bachelor of Science (Industrial Relations) degree from the University of Montreal and a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Sherbrooke. He received his CGA designation in 1986; he was named a Fellow of the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada in 1995 and a Life Member in 1999; and he also holds the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation.
Under Mr. Legault’s thought leadership, the CPA articulated its long-term Payments Strategy Vision 2020 following its largest public consultation ever and international benchmarking research.
On the international stage, Mr. Legault is a founding member of the International Council of Payments Associations Chief Executives with membership from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States and South Africa.
Over the years, Mr. Legault has served on numerous volunteers Boards and committees in Canada and abroad. He is currently on the Board of the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE). He has been on the Board of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation since 2004 and is currently Past Chair of the Board.
